About Us

Our Mission:

To make the joys of the sea accessible to all

Goals of the Foundation:

Access the Sea empowers the disabled with confidence, knowledge and skills to enjoy the beauty of South Florida's waterways, irrespective of any physical limitations. Participants will learn about ecosystems, navigation and fishing techniques, and with each lesson learned, will begin to overcome barriers previously believed to be insurmountable. Ultimately, through providing a robust sea adventure, Access the Sea hopes to make the disabled feel more abled in all aspects if their lives.

Meet the Founder:

Maryanne Hedrick has always loved boating and fishing in South Florida. In 1997, she was rendered paraplegic in a car accident, but never lost her love for the sea. As a retired Lake Worth Middle School teacher, she now wants to share her joy and experiences on the water with other disabled adults and children who may not believe such experiences are possible.
